Lady Redbirds Golf Score Big Wins

Lady Redbirds Golf Score Big Wins, Metamora Herald

Metamora's Lady Redbirds Golf team had two impressive conference wins this week.  Their first match this Tuesday was against the Raiders of East Peoria at Home; Metamora Fields Golf Club.  Tuesday couldnt have been ordered any better with the weather as it was a temperate 76 degrees and sunny with a breeze that kept everyone with a smile as the Redbirds defeated East Peoria 193 to 242.  The leading scores for Coach Danner's Varsity were Hannah Heiden's 40, Brooke Drier's 44, Kerri Troutt's 53 and new comer to the game of golf, Rebecca Johnson's 56.  The other Redbirds for Varsity were Taylor Whitaker and Olivia Ehlers each with 63s.  The Junior Varsity posted home scores of Kate Guede's 52, Anna Schnetzler's 55, Stephanie Spradlin's 63, Jackie Mahan's  66, Alli Voss' 69 and Avery Adami's 77.

This conference win is critical for the Lady Redbirds as they will face heavy opponents in both conference and non-conference play.  Asked if this match was a good win, Coach Danner said "each match is an opportunity to improve and get better as it should be".  The Lady Redbirds then headed to Peoria's Madison Golf Course, West Peoria, to play against the Rockets from Limestone.    The play here at this historic Peoria Park Golf Course is a change of scenery of our Lady Redbirds.  The scenery changes due to the amount of trees that line the fairways create a tunnel effect for them on several drives and approach shots.  This course rolled, bounced and was in the sun for the majority of the day, not holding too many of your approaches on the green.

The Lady Redbirds earned their second Mid Illini Conference victory with only 14 strokes to the Rockets; their closest match to date, 198 to 212.  Our Redbirds were led by Brooke Drier's 44, Hannah Heiden's 45, Kerri Troutt's 53, Taylor Whitaker's 56, Kate Guede's 58 and Rebecca Johnson's 65.  This conference win takes the Lady Redbirds into two tournaments this week; Rantoul's Brookhill Shoot out on Friday and then to Normal for the Saints Shootout, Saturday.  The Redbirds host Dunlap Tuesday at the Fields.  The Eagles played very well here during the Redbird Shootout and this will be an important conference match.  The Redbirds play in El Paso-Gridley/Olympia for a Tri-Meet on Wednesday.

May your Drives always find the Fairways and the wind always be to your back!  Go Redbirds.  In the photo, Junior's Brooke Drier and Hannah Heiden, looking over the green at Madison Golf Course.
