2019 Redbird Classic @ Metamora Fields

Wednesday, August 21st the Lady Redbirds were host to several area golf teams.  The Redbird Classic was in full swing for this exciting annual event.  Teams represented here for this slightly overcast day were; Tri-Valley, Putnam County, Peoria Notre Dame, Washington, Quincy, Pontiac, Morton, Fieldcrest, Dunlap, Bloomington Catholic Central, Limestone, Geneseo, Lincoln, LaSalle Peru, Flanagan, Eureka and Metamora.

The day began with the sun shining, humid, no wind and forecast for rain, rain and then more rain.  The start time was 1:00 p.m. and the girls had been taking their practice swings on the driving range, chipping and putting on the practice greens and eagerly anticipating their turn at the very challenging and yet rewarding Metamora Fields. They wanted to play before it rained.

The day prior to this event had brought some much needed precipitation to central Illinois and to many of the Farmers fields, yards and to the fairways and greens here in Metamora.  The fairways showed no mushy after affects, nor did any of the greens hold and plug any of the approach shots taken at these 18 targets throughout the Fields.  The course was ready for the girls.

Overcast skies with a flirting rain drop here and there allowed for 18 holes of incredible play among these girls golf teams.   Each Teams Top rated girls began on the front nine followed by the descending ranking girls on the holes in front leading all the way to the 18th.  Fast pace began the days event with many of the foursome concluding within the typical four hours for 18 holes.

As the scores were turned in it was evident that our Lady Redbirds didn't have their best games at their home course and during their event to walk away winners.  Counting only the top (best) four scores for this tournament, our Lady Redbirds turned in; 87 Hannah Heiden, 91 Brooke Drier, 107 Kerri Troutt, 119 Taylor Whitaker for a entered team score of 403.

Quincy 345,Geneseo 349, Bloomington's 352, Tri-Valley's 355, Washington's 370, Dunlap's 387,
Morton's 400, Pontiac's 402, LaSalle Peru 453, Limestone's 462, Fieldcrest's 550, Flanagan's 595

The Lady Redbirds have an active week of golf starting with East Peoria on Tuesday, Limestone on Thursday, Rantoul Friday and The Saints Tournament at Ironwood, Normal.  May your drives find the fairways and the wind always be at your back.
