Ottawa, Ill. - Metamora (12-3) (3-1) was just one game away from playing for the Ottawa tournament title entering the final day of the tournament on Saturday. Standing between them and the title game were the host Ottawa Pirates (11-2) (3-1).

Both teams got off to a slow start. So much so, that only two players were able to score in the opening quarter for both sides. The Redbirds got off to a very low-scoring effort, only scoring four points. Important to note, Metamora had 29 points in the first quarter of the Morris game. Shots that would normally fall weren't falling. That being said, the Pirates were struggling to score as well. Their key player, Angelique Cowan, only had four points after eight minutes. It was 8-4 after one.

It was a rare type of air for the Redbirds when it came to the second quarter. Cowan got her first three of the game, just one positive for the host Pirates in another eight-point quarter. More shots continued to not fall for Metamora, meanwhile. Actually, for the first time in the 2018-2019 season, the Redbirds would fail to score one point. The low scoring had continued for both sides, and as a result, the Pirates held a 16-4 lead at halftime.

Head coach Brianna Morrow certainly had some things that need to be corrected in the halftime locker room. For the most part, what she said worked. The third quarter saw a much improved Metamora team take the floor. The only issue for the Redbirds was that Ottawa also took the floor as an improved team. After a combined 20-point first half, the Redbirds and Pirates combined for a 27-point third quarter. The Pirates were able to edge the Redbirds in scoring, 14-13, but Metamora still managed to prove that they weren't out of this game yet.

Both sides saw scoring taper off in the fourth. However, for Metamora, Alivia West and Anne Peters had solid quarters. The duo combined for all 12 of the Redbirds' points in the final quarter of play.

Then came the late-game fouling situation. Unfortunately for the Redbirds, they were on the fouling end of it. More times then not, they'd be forced to foul Angelique Cowan, who turns out, would only miss one free throw in the entire game. The Ottawa senior made 4-5 free ones in the fourth. Metamora was able to get 2-2 free throws from Peters, but that was all. In the end, the Pirates were able to run out the clock and knock off Metamora, 38-29.

The loss drops Metamora to the third place game against LaSalle-Peru.
