This holiday season, we will all be gathered with family, friends/coworkers at social events. There will be food, laughter, and gifts to exchange. But the one gift we should all be the most grateful for every day of the year is the Univeral Declaration of Human Rights. Created by the UN after WW2 ended. The UN adopted the declaration on December 10th, 1948, and kept December 10th is the annual date of the celebration.

[1] This year, Human Rights Day  marks the 70th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a milestone document that proclaimed the inalienable rights which everyone is inherently entitled to as a human being -- regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

After reading the declaration I have to say, that I wish the Articles in this document were followed more closely. Everyone everywhere should consider human life important.  [2] Whereas recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice, and peace in the world. The best place to start is local. Food banks, clothing/toy donations, or volunteering your time are all excellent ways of supporting people in your community. Happy Human Rights Day!
