Metamora, Ill. - It hasn't happened in well over a decade, but the Metamora Redbirds are (9-1) (3-0) through 10 games. Ironically enough, so is their opponent Thursday. The fourth-ranked Morton Lady Potters enter this game with an equal record of (9-1) (3-0). Something's got to give.

The Potters and Redbirds are second and third in the area power rankings for Large School Girls (Peoria Journal Star).

Morton is averaging 64.4 points per game, having only scored less than 60 twice, a five-point win over Normal Community (57-52) and a 17-point win over Monroe from Wisconsin (57-40). On the other hand, Metamora is yet to have hit that 60 point mark.

Breaking it down even more, Morton averages beating their opponents by 28.8 points, while Metamora averages a 16.6 point spread in their wins.

Morton has two Division-I recruits in Tenley Dowell (Butler - Big East) and Lindsey Dullard (UAB - C-USA).

The most notable games for the Potters include the following:
57-52 win over 4A #10 Normal Community
67-39 win over 3A #10 Bishop McNamara
61-64 loss in 2OT to 3A #1 Peoria Richwoods
57-40 win over Wisconsin D2 #3 Monroe

The last team to beat the Morton Potters in a Mid-Illini game are the East Peoria Raiders. It was a 37-35 final score in East Peoria back on January 22nd, 2016. That means the Potters have won 37 consecutive conference games counting postseason meetings.

Some say that this year presents the best opportunity for Metamora to be the ones that end that streak. The Redbirds did give Morton one of their closest games last year, a 12-point win for the Potters in Morton.

Both teams are riding win streaks coming into Thursday's meeting. The Redbirds are on an eight-game win streak, while the Potters are on a five-game win streak.

The top five scorers for Metamora are Anne Peters (100 pts / 10.0 ppg), Alivia West (95 pts / 9.5 ppg), Reagan Begole (93 pts / 9.3 ppg), Alana Terry (83 pts / 8.3 ppg), and Kaylee Hieronymus (64 pts / 6.4 ppg).

In essence, going off what's 'on paper', this should be a good game. How good? You'll have to wait and find out Thursday night.

At almost the exact same time as the Metamora-Morton game is tipping off, the Germantown Hills Warriors are playing Hillsboro for 3rd Place.
