Metamora Girls Swim Team finish season at State Finals

Evanston, Ill. - A good season became great for the Metamora Redbirds just over a week ago, when the 200 freestyle relay team of Emmie Brockhouse (Senior), Brooke McCormick (Senior), Brooke Barlow (Sophomore), and Kaia Bridenbaugh (Freshman) finished the sectional meet in fourth place with a time of 1:39.67 to qualify for the State Finals at Evanston.

The 200 freestyle relay pitted 34 teams in the preliminary round. Normal U-High, Metamora, and Dunlap were the local teams competing in this particular relay.

With that 1:39.67 seed time, they narrowly missed that mark. By relay's end, the Redbirds would be timed at 1:40.89, effectively ending the season, but a quality one at that.

Certainly of note, Brockhouse and McCormick both finish their prep swimming careers as four-time State Qualifiers.

Head Coach Shane 'Lefty' Morrison completes his 8th season at the helm of the program. A return for a ninth season would make him the longest-tenured coach in program history according to historical data from He was assisted by Mic McCormick.

Naperville Neuqua Valley took home the State Title, followed by Aurora Rosary and Winnetka New Trier. Had Aurora Rosary would've won the title, it would've been their fourth consecutive, again, according to
