Metamora, Ill. - Metamora Volleyball (14-13) (6-5) was looking to sweep its conference matchups in the week, and potentially a season sweep against tonight's senior night opponent, Pekin.

The match got off to about as good of a start as you could ask for with Reagan Begole, with the senior responsible for Metamora's first three points, all on kills.

A big block from Alivia West make it 8-6. From there, the Redbirds out-scored Pekin 8-3 to force a Dragons timeout with Metamora ahead 16-9.

The Redbirds kept their foot on the gas, leading Pekin 22-12 at the visitor's final timeout of the set.

That turned into a dominant 25-15 opening-set win for Metamora.

Just when you thought there's not much better of a start than the first set, the Redbirds would go on a 10-1 run to start what would end up being the final set of the match.

Exactly 11 minutes later, it was already match point. The Redbirds got a kill from Begole to cap off an already special night for both her and the other four seniors.

The Redbirds won, 2-0, completing the season straight-set sweep of third-place Pekin.

The winning streak sets the Redbirds up well for their tournament this weekend. Yes, they have a tournament on Friday. Yes, one of their matches is at 7:00 pm. Thus, the entire team will be playing in Bloomington as the MTHS Football team is battling #1 Washington at Malone Field.

Nonetheless, the Redbirds certainly have momentum. The first match is that 7:00 pm one at Illinois Wesleyan University's Shirk Center against Belleville East.

They Said It | HC Tara Ballard
On Reagan Begole's Senior Night performance:
"She's earned it. She's worked her butt off. You still have to execute, and she did just that. That was awesome to see her step up as a senior leader and be able to put the ball away."

On Pekin's response tonight versus last meeting:
"I think at the very beginning, they were out to get us. We played really well as a team, played good defense. Anything the girls touched was like gold. They kept scoring, and I think they (Pekin) just started to fall apart. That was us making them fall apart. The girls did an awesome job tonight."
