Metamora, Ill. - The anticipation is over. Well, not exactly. Really, the anticipation turns from the playoff pairings show to the playoff game.

On Saturday evening, teams across the state of Illinois waited anxiously to see where they would be in the IHSA Football Playoffs. From 1A-8A, there's a lot that goes into an evening like this one.

The Redbirds, a three seed, drew a perennial power in Joliet Catholic, who enters as a 14 seed.

The last time these two teams met was back in 2000, in the 2000 4A State Championship game, which was won by the Hilltoppers, 27-14. In fact, they also met the year before in the 1999 4A State Championship, also won by Joliet Catholic, 48-13.

The Redbirds will host a opening round playoff game for the first time since 2015. That season, Metamora played host to Sterling, and lost, 44-12. Fans may recall that the conditions that day weren't exactly the driest.

To recap the schedule for Metamora, it was a 33-7 win over Champaign Central, 42-14 over Rock Island, 49-0 over East Peoria, 56-7 over Limestone, 35-14 over Dunlap, 56-42 over Morton, 49-21 over Pekin, a 30-15 loss to Washington, and a 41-point win over Canton on Friday.

While the Redbirds are coming off of a 47-6 win over the Little Giants, the Hilltoppers are coming off of a 33-17 win at Niles Notre Dame.

Their full schedule went as follows: a 30-20 win over Chicago St. Rita, 42-0 loss to Elmhurst IC Catholic, 55-10 win over Arlington Heights St. Viator, 56-21 win over Mundelein Carmel, a 42-6 loss to Chicago Marist, a 20-13 loss to Benet Academy, a 70-28 win over Chicago Heights Marian, a 49-20 loss to Nazareth Academy, and the aforementioned win over Niles Notre Dame.

That puts the Hilltoppers at (5-4) entering their game against Metamora.

If Metamora were to win their playoff opener, they would host again in Round 2, taking on either Marion or Rich East.

Four Mid-Illini teams made the playoffs Other than Metamora, Washington will host Providence Catholic, Dunlap will travel to Yorkville, and Morton will travel to Decatur MacArthur.

Also of note, Peoria Notre Dame will travel to Normal West.

Very important for fans to note. The game will be on Saturday night, October 27th, kicking off at 6:00 pm. Gates will open at 4:30 pm.

A full game preview will be out on Thursday night.
