Lady Redbirds and Panthers
(Metamora Fields Golf Club) The weather Tuesday (9-18-2018) started off well and then got gloomy as the day went on, similar to the golf contest between the Lady Redbirds and the Panthers of Washington.  The Redbirds and Panthers were tied in the Mid-Illini Conference entering into this 9 hole Varsity Contest at the Metamora Fields Golf Club.  The clouds converged over central Illinois along with the excitement for the lead for conference play.  The weather held off with only a few light sprinkles of rain during this event.  Similar to a classic Alfred Hitchcock movie, so too did the conclusion of this great rivalry between Metamora and Washington, with a heart wrenching and exciting end.

The Panthers beat the Lady Redbirds with their top 4 scores of 168 to 174.  Metamora Fields Golf Club was playing very well this Tuesday night and the fairways were complementing the players if they hit them on their drive.  Conversely, punishing them from the thick roughs and fescue on an errant shot.

The Varsity Lady Redbirds were led by Hannah Heiden's with a 39, followed by Haleigh Hassinger's 44,  Brooke Drier's 45, Aubrey Youngquist's and Kerri Trout's 46 and Kara Hyde's 47.  The Lady Redbird's JV squad defeated Washington 227 to 237 with Taylor Ellis' 48, Maggie Schaffer's 58, Ally Voss' 60, Brooklyn McDonald's 61, Taylor Whittaker's 62 and Kate Guede's 65.  The Panthers Varsity Girls team remains undefeated at 6-0 in Mid-Illini Conference.  The Lady Redbirds are at second place with 5-1, Morton and East Peoria are tied in third at 4-2, Limestone and Pekin tied for fifth, Dunlap at seventh 1-5 and Canton in eighth 0-6.

The Lady Redbirds Varsity Players had an impressive showing with individual scores in the Mid-Illini conference of: Hannah Heiden 2nd, Haleigh Hassinger 5th, Brooke Drier 6th, Aubrey Youngquist, Kerri Troutt 9th and Kara Hyde 11th.

Earlier, the Lady Redbirds had defeated the Pekin Lady Dragons at the very challenging Lick Creek Golf Club.  If you have ever played golf there, then you know of this challenge.   The Lady Redbirds won with Haleigh Hassinger leading with a 49, Hannah Heiden's 53, Aubrey Youngquist's 57, Grace Simpson's 58 and Kara Hyde and Brooke Drier's 60.  Two days after the contest in Pekin, the Lady Redbirds top five players entered into the Livingston County Invite at the ever testing and challenging Wolf Creek Golf Course, north of Pontiac.  The Lady Redbirds Varsity Team placed an impressive 4th place after U-High, Normal Community and Bloomington Community Christian.  The Varsity Redbirds were led by Aubrey Yongquist's 87, followed by Haleigh Hassinger's 96, Kara Hyde's and Hannah Heiden's 97 and Brooke Drier's 98.

The Lady Redbirds continue their season Thursday at home against Moline and then Travel Saturday to Galesburg, for their tournament.  Statistics and scores furnished by Coach Chuck Danner.
