Happy new year!  The Woodford County Democrats' next meeting will be Tuesday, February 27, 6:30pm meal, 7pm business, at The Flame Family Restaurant, 939 W. Mt. Vernon St., Metamora IL.  In the meantime, here are some January events for Woodford County people, but all happen to be in Tazewell County this month:
  • Meet, Greet, and Eat with Democratic candidatesSunday, January 7, 2pm-4pmKep's Bar & Grill, 313 Muller Road, Washington IL.  Hear the candidates and speak to them in person.  Woodford County's own Congressional candidate Junius Rodriguez (18th Congressional District), State House candidate Jill Blair (88th District, just outside the Woodford Co. line), Tazewell Co. Board candidate Matt Ward.  Directions from Washington Road, west of the square: Drive until you see AutoZone and The Blend; turn towards the Blend (away from AutoZone) and go down Muller Rd.; Kep's is on the left just before the curve.  Sponsored by Progressives of the Washington Area.
  • March to the Polls (the Women's March anniversary event): Saturday, January 20, noon-1pmEast Peoria River Front Park,1201 Riverside Dr., East Peoria IL.  (That's the riverfront behind Walmart on the way to Bass Pro Shops.  Some parking is on the corner of Bass Pro Dr. and Riverside Dr.)  "We invite all citizens of central Illinois who believe in a country that is equitable, tolerant, just and safe for all, and one in which the human rights and dignity of each person is protected, to join us for a Women’s March in East Peoria. This event will be a nonviolent gathering of women, femmes, and allies to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the Women's March and to launch the 2018 #PowerToThePolls agenda."  Voter registrars will be on site.  Sponsored by the Heart of Illinois NOW, a new National Organization for Women chapter.  Volunteer sign-up at https://goo.gl/forms/ybPkVEMLHiiLCVSr1 or see the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/events/140216633360665/
  • HOI NOW kick-off meeting: Thursday, January 25, 6pm-8pm, Seasons Gastropub, 149 S. Main St., Morton IL.  (Corner of Main St. and W. Adams St., on the back of what is now Basta's; parking lot on Adams side; meeting in the basement.)  The National Organization for Women's new Heart of Illinois chapter will serve Tazewell and Woodford counties.  This is their inaugural meeting.
Write-in candidates: The last day to file as a write-in candidate is Thursday, January 18 for the March 20 primary.  You have to file as a write-in ("Declaration of Intent") in each county you want to run in, and if there are no other candidates on the ballot, you have to get as many write-in votes as you would have needed on your candidate petition.  (In some places that's as few as 10 write-in votes.)  Let us know if you need help.

Fake election "investigators": This probably doesn't affect us in Woodford County, but just in case, here's a scam warning from the State Board of Elections:
The Illinois State Board of Elections has been made aware of incidents where individuals have been approached by persons claiming to be “investigators” from the State Board of Elections, making inquiries about petition circulators. Please be aware that the State Board of Elections does not have any staff, investigators or otherwise, conducting any type of investigation in any areas of the State. If you have any additional information, please contact the SBE at [email protected].
