Hieronymus, Begole, and Seals power Metamora Girls Basketball to 38-point win over East Peoria

East Peoria, IL - The Metamora Redbirds (10-8) (4-3) were back in action Tuesday night against the East Peoria Raiders (1-18) (0-7). From tipoff, this one was all Redbirds.

The scoring came aplenty from the visiting Redbirds in the first quarter, with five girls all getting into the scoring column. Kaylee Hieronymus (5'5" Jr.) provided a spark off the bench, leading the plethora of Metamora scoring with 5 points right out of the gate. The Raiders just couldn't get the offense flowing at all, with their best offensive player Sarah LaHood (5'11" Jr.) scoring all of the points in the first frame for East Peoria. By quarter's end, the Redbirds would already be out in front by 13, 17-4.

Second quarter action was much of the same for both sides, as once again, five Redbirds made it into the scoring column for the quarter, and LaHood provided all but two of the Raiders points in the second period. Metamora's defensive pressure would be a factor coming into this one, and it was right where it needed to be. East Peoria barely had double figures at the half. Headed into the halftime locker room, the Redbirds would have an even bigger lead, 21 points to be exact, 31-10.

The third quarter was likely Metamora's best and East Peoria's worst. Sierrah Seals (5'8" Sr.) had a quality quarter, totaling eight of her 10 points for the game in the third. Hieronymus had another good quarter, getting another five points of her 13 on the game, and the Redbirds would have an extremely commanding 51-12 lead headed into the fourth quarter.

The fourth and final quarter saw a good opportunity for the players normally getting less minutes to get quality minutes off the bench. A large contingent of sophomores played a majority of the fourth quarter for the Redbirds, a squad that won the Sophomore Ottawa Christmas Tournament just over two weeks ago. Maddi Benson (5'9" So.) scored her first varsity points in the quarter, and Alana Terry (5'9" Fr.) had three points in the fourth quarter to pace the last 10 minutes for Metamora. East Peoria would actually outscore the Redbirds in the fourth, 9-8. When the final buzzer sounded, however, the Redbirds would still walk away with a convincing 59-21 win over the Raiders.

The win continues Metamora's win streak, which is now up to six. The last loss came on December 16th to 3A fifth-ranked Maple Park Kaneland in Ottawa. That win streak will face a very tough task Friday, as the Lady Redbirds take the short drive to Morton to square off against the 3-time defending state champion Lady Potters.

Reagan Begole, Kaylee Hieronymus, and Sierrah Seals paced the offense for the game as a whole, as the three of them combined for 36 of the Redbirds' 59 points. LaHood was the leading scorer for East Peoria, who had eight points in the first half, but didn't score for the remainder of the game.

The Redbirds' 20 made 2-pointers, which ties a season high, originally set back on November 28th against Bloomington. The 59 points also just misses the season high of 63, set against Rockford East on December 22nd.
