Labor Day 2017

Labor Day 2017, Metamora Herald

Labor Day is the day we honor those "who from rude nature have delved and carved all the grandeur we behold." Often times today is thought of as a day for shopping or cook outs with family and friends. While this is an excellent way to celebrate this occasion, take a moment to reflect on those who have worked for organized labor.
Weekends, taken for granted by most people as a time of leisure, were brought about by union organizing. Eight hour work days and forty hour weeks were championed by union folks. Pensions were fought for by union members. Holiday pay, health benefits, paid vacations, sick leave, etc. all from organized labor. The list just goes on!
The campaign for the rights of working women and men continue. This holiday, while you are enjoying the fruits of this progress, consider how you can help move forward the rights of individuals in our workforce and nation.
