St. Mary's Catholic School 6th grade Chess Team placed 2nd in state this year. This summer on July 10th & 11th they will be hosting a Greater Peoria Chess Federation sponsored Chess Camp. Here is a quote from the website:

[1] This is the first St Mary's Chess Camp. The goal is to provide a high quality chess education for the scholastic (k-12) players from the Metamora/Central Illinois area to mix and meet with top chess educators to increase their understanding of the game and improve their play. Students are broken in groups according to their playing skill. Beginners re-enforce their understandings of the rules and learn basic strategies and tactics for play. Intermediate players work on advanced tactics and more sophisticated endgame issues. Advanced players receive training in all aspects of the game with a holistic approach to game planning. All players receive the personal attention of their instructor. Camp Cost is $100 payable at the door. But please use the online registration to reserve your spot.

Visit  http://www.stmaryschess.com/STMregistration.html, to register your child for an educational experience like no other. Congratulations to the chess players for placing 2nd in state!

I think putting cement chess tables at the Metamora Square Park and surrounding parks would be really fun, and give us chess players something to do outside around town. I would like to talk to the Village Board about purchasing one or two cement chess tables for the Metamora Square, and I may also approach the Metamora Park District as well. If you think this would add special enhancements to our parks and want to participate in helping me get these tables, write to me robin@metamoraherald.com. Also, you could call the Village (309) 367-4044 or the park district (309) 367-2932.
