What is happening in the US today?

[This is an opinion piece but based on facts. Whether you agree with me or not I will be stating the facts of our current situation.] Right now May 10, 2017, at the White House citizens are holding a protest for granting a special independent investigation committee. This was asked for this morning on the Senate floor by Senator Chuck Schumer NY to Senator Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. He denied this course of action stating “ it would only impede the Senate Intelligence Committee's current probe into the matter.”[2]

Since the day POTUS took office, there have been many strange occurrences. One of the first incidences was the firing of Sally Yates for informing the Vice-President about Mike Flynn and how he had been compromised by foreign entities. This was her job! She took an oath to uphold the law no matter what. She held her position at the Dept. of Justice for 27 year's. She was a dedicated, professional, patriot who was fired for doing her job. I feel the reputation of her and many other longtime government officials are being smeared.

Of course, there are all the Twitter rants, firing of 46 of the US Attorney’s without warning, firing James Commey, the AHCA, and today, May 10th, he met with a Russian official and allowed Russian press into the meeting, but not one journalist from the USA. On top of that, a member of the press was arrested today for asking a question to Tom Price, the secretary of the Department of Human and Health Services, about whether or not “Domestic violence count as a preexisting condition?” Dan Heyman a freelance journalist, was arrested on the spot by the Capitol Police, “handcuffed and charged with a misdemeanor count of willful disruption of governmental processes. He spent eight hours in a local jail before the news service posted a $5,000 bail for his release.” according to the NY Times. [2]

Here is a statement by the POTUS
“If the Constitution prevented me from doing one or two things, I’d chalk that up to bad luck,” he said. “But when literally everything I want to do is magically a violation of the Constitution, that’s very unfair and bad treatment.” [2] Well sorry sir, but as it states in the Constitution “Before he enter on the Execution of his Office, he shall take the following Oath or Affirmation:—"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.” [1] What does that mean to you?

If you are concerned about our country and want to do something but are not sure what or how, write our Senators and Congressmen, or assemble peacefully and protest. Tell them we need an independent committee that cannot be stopped by firing everyone. We have the power to make changes happen, but we have to be involved. Here are the numbers to call and a link to a letter that can be used to write a government official. http://www.oprah.com/oprahshow/write-a-letter-to-your-governor They all have websites you can visit and write to them that way as well. Be the change you want to see in the world. God bless the USA!
