MGS St. Jude Ice Cream Sale

St. Jude has been saving lives and helping families since 1962. The non-profit medical organization was founded by comedian Danny Thomas and two of his friends Lemuel Diggs and Anthony Abraham. The premise of the group is “ no child should die in the dawn of life”.  A large proportion of money donated is spent directly on research for disease and to fund the hospital, and also house the families of the patients.

The beginning for Danny, was when he became a part of the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities (ALSAC). Through being involved with this organization he realized his dream of a hospital for children, but one that could focus on the medicine and not the money to pay for it. That is exactly what St. Jude does. They have treated children across the U.S.A. and 70 countries around the world. Some of the cases were of the most challenging diseases ever to be seen.

One other critical aspect of St. Jude, is the fact that they house the families of the sick children. They have three specially-designed patient housing facilities. The Tri-Delta for a short stay, Ronald McDonald House for a stay of up to three months, and Target House for three months or longer periods. All of the housing is free to the patient’s family. This was another concern of ALSAC, “how could families afford to live and pay the hospital bills?” St. Jude handles all of that.

There are many organizations now involved in helping to raise money for St. Jude. College fraternities and sororities all across the U.S. have partnered with St. Jude and have raised millions of dollars for the charity. High schools and elementary as well have joined in on raising funds for St. Jude. In fact, this Thursday, April 13th, 2017 MGS will be selling ice cream at lunchtime. The money collected will be donated to St. Jude. Thank you, MGS!

There are a couple other events happening locally. Peoria has a "Dream House Give Away" taking place right now. This has been a very prosperous and popular event to raise money for St. Jude. Winners of this drawing will be done on April 23rd, 2017 on WEEK. While tickets to win the home are sold out, you can still tour the home for a chance to win a $5000 shopping spree. If you missed this event, sign up for the Metamora to Peoria St. Jude Run. The run will take place August 5th, 2017, so you have time to sign up and train. Running not your thing but you want to help out? Go to https://www.stjude.org and find a participant to sponsor.
