Masterpiece Monday Art Show @ Snyder Village 4/30

Metamora Community Preschool (MCP) and Snyder Village, present
an intergenerational event, Masterpiece Monday - An Art Show. This event features
artwork by preschool students at the local retirement community on Sunday, April 30th,
from 2-4 p.m. at Snyder Village, 1200 E. Partridge, Metamora, IL, 61548. This first
annual event is free and open to the public.
Throughout the school year, MCP students study numerous artists including Picasso,
Kandinsky, Mondrian, Van Gogh, and O’Keefe. The children learn about the different
styles of these artists and then emulate those styles into their own artwork.
Debbie Quinn, director and lead teacher for MCP for the last 10 years, has developed a
specialized curriculum using a combination of teacher lead lessons and independent
play. “Our program is radically different than most area preschools. We want our
students to have a hands-on, play-based, early childhood education that focuses on
providing students learning experiences in a loving atmosphere ” comments Quinn.
One part of MCP’s curriculum is art, which has been part of the education program for
the past six years. Quinn expanded the art program by developing Masterpiece
Mondays two years ago where an artist is discussed and the students are able to make
artwork focusing on a similar style of the featured artist.
The student’s artwork was saved all year and will be on display for viewing at Metamora’s Snyder Village. MCP board members and staff feel strongly about the benefits of intergenerational
programs combining our community’s youngest and oldest residents.
