2 Solutions, 1 Great Organization

Thursday, April 20th, 2017, my husband Zack and I had the privilege of touring the Association for the Developmentally Disabled of Woodford County (ADDWC) facility located at 200 Moody Street in Eureka, IL. This organization is dedicated to two important causes near and dear to my heart, helping people with developmental disabilities and recycling. I was blown away by this fantastic place and the people who work there.

“The Association for the Developmentally Disabled of Woodford County is a small, non-profit agency providing quality, person-centered, individualized services for adults with intellectual disabilities.  We offer community living options, home-based support services, vocational and life skills programs as well as advocacy for residents of Central Illinois." The funds they raise go towards the residential space and help to support the Moody facility.

The service this organization is providing is so incredibly important for all of us. The recycling being done is helping the environment. Processing the recyclable materials is an excellent job for these individuals. There are different skills and positions to do in the facility and a lot of work that needs to be done. Picking up the materials from five different recycling trailers around the area is a big job in itself. People in the community are also able to come and drop off items at the facility which has to be separated and processed and taken to a larger recycling plant.

In another part of the building is a life skills area that includes a kitchen to teach cooking skills and a laundry station to learn how to do laundry. A training area to learn job skills. There is also a space to teach art and music for those who are interested in learning these crafts. Part of the life skills is going on outings to grocery shop and bank, etc. These skills provide a sense of responsibility and individuality for the “students.”

There are two major fundraising events they will have this year, which  I would like to bring to your attention. The 10th Annual Italian Feast Fundraiser sponsored by Michael’s. This will take place May 6th, 2017 at the Eureka Bible Church 1452 Church Road, Eureka, IL. Starting at 4:30 pm and ending at 7:00 pm. The other event is the 3rd Annual ADDWC Going Green Golf Tournament on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 at Metamora Fields.
