Delicious Flakey Buttery Pie Crust for PI Day

My dinner tonight has been inspired by National PI Day, and it is gonna be great! Homemade deep dish pizza made with my homemade pie crust.  It's gonna be so good. So I thought I would share my recipe for pie crust. It can be used in sweet or savory dishes and it is super easy to make. Here is the recipe:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees

3  1/4 cups of all purpose flour           1 tsp salt
2/3 cup of COLD shortening             1/2 cup of COLD butter
5 to 7 Tbsp of Ice COLD Water

Mix flour and salt, cut butter and shortening into small cubes and work into flour mix with hands or fork. Add water one tablespoon at a time and mix with hands until all the water is added and dough stays together in a ball, should be squeezable. Cover dough with plastic wrap and place in fridge for a half an hour and let the gluten do it's work.

Remove wrap and roll dough out on a floured surface to your desired thickness. If you cut the dough in half, you can get 2 nice sized crusts(maybe 3). Bake crust at 400 for 10-15 minutes to brown it, remove from oven and slightly cool, then add whatever you like fruit or custards.  Refrigerate custards until set and bake pies for 30-45 minutes. Cover crust edge with aluminum foil to avoid burning.

Savory or sweet you really can not go wrong with this crust. Happy PI Day!
