By the People, for the People

There is so much going on right now with politics. Difficult to differentiate the truth from nonsense, and sometimes a little confusing. I feel as though the press keeps getting fed stories of uselessness, so they are sent on a wild goose chase while other serious events are occurring. I am genuinely frightened by what is happening right now. I am hoping our local election will bring some peace to all this hubbub. Believe it or not, “BIG” government starts in local communities like ours, and being involved at this level is where we can make a difference.

Supporting your local government is more crucial now than ever before. I never realized how much until recently. I just figured "leave it to the people who know what they are doing, and things will work out." In my opinion, I think a lot of people feel that way. I mean you gotta go to meetings, there is all this red tape and paperwork involved. But if you let other people make decisions for you, how can you complain about what happens?

I for one, have become more interested in our local government. Multiple school, township, village, library, and park boards; separate entities making sure our tax dollars are allocated and spent properly. If you are interested in going to meetings or finding out more about what is happening in your neck of the woods check online. Many local govering bodies have sites that make it easy to get in touch and learn more. Below are a few for Metamora, as well as the state wide clearing house for public notices. Everyone get on out and vote April 4th!
