MGHJWC Helping to Prevent Child Abuse

Metamora Herald blue pinwheel for abuse

There are some topics that we are all uncomfortable with talking or even thinking about. Nevertheless they do exist and ignoring them won’t make things better or go away. Ignoring  makes things worse. So we must take the time to think, speak, and take action against these topics of discomfort. One of the causes of which I am referring to is child abuse. So ugly I know, but it is still happening and we can’t turn a blind eye to it. The Metamora Germantown Hills Junior Women’s Club is continuing their battle against child abuse and bringing awareness to the community.

The GFWC Illinois Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman’s Club participates in a nationwide tradition in April, which is Child Abuse Prevention Month. Throughout this month, their organization host public awareness events and educational activities that focus on drawing attention to the urgent put to stop child abuse before it starts.

This April, be on the lookout for Pinwheels for Prevention—the signature campaign of Prevent Child Abuse America and its state chapters. Why pinwheels? Pinwheels are a happy and uplifting symbol of the bright future all children deserve. They are the centerpiece of a growing movement committed to stopping child abuse before it starts. This April, you’ll see them popping up in the community.
Since 2013, the Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman’s Club has planted pinwheel gardens in Germantown Hills and Metamora. Last year, we expanded our project by having the community sponsor pinwheels. You can add to your community’s Pinwheel Garden for just $1! Your donation goes to Prevent Child Abuse Illinois and the pinwheels help promote awareness for this cause during the month of April. Purchase yours through the GFWC Illinois Metamora-Germantown Hills Junior Woman’s Club.

The Junior Woman’s Club believe that preventing child abuse means setting the stage for healthy, stable families who have the tools that they need to nurture their sons and daughters. By participating in this event, you help honor all the children in our community and donate to an essential cause.

To participate, please send $1 for each person who wishes to sponsor a pinwheel. Donor names will be placed on a laminated tag attached to the pinwheel. You might choose to purchase one for your entire family (Example: Smith Family) or, perhaps, you’d like to purchase individual pinwheels per person. On a piece of paper list the number of pinwheels you would like to purchase along with the name(s) for the pinwheels, include the money (checks made out to MGH JWC), and return it to Germantown Hills Schools, Metamora Grade School, St. Mary’s Grade School, or mail to MGH JWC, P.O. Box 954, Metamora, IL 61548 by March 1, 2017. If you have any questions, please contact Donna Cross at 309-383-4843.

It’s your turn to make a difference! Please consider taking action to prevent child abuse.
