Local Vineyard

Recently, I found out we have a vineyard in Metamora, and they just opened Bent Tree their wine tasting room. Old Mill Vineyard, lacated at 700 Coon Creek Road, is owned and operated by Donna Grohsmeyer and her husband Kurt. Their grapes offer a unique flavor to the wine produced, and they do grow a variety of grapes and have a nice selection of Red and White wines.

Like I said I had just heard of them and so I thought I should give them a try I am after all adventurous if nothing else. So my hubby and I Google Mapped it and discovered it was only 10 minutes from our house. So away we went and just a hop, skip, and a jump and we were there.

As we pulled down the driveway we could see the vineyard, rows, and rows of different types of grapes. Up ahead we see what resembles a house and a lovely view of a lake behind. The building seems homey and we walk up to the stained glass door and walk into the tasting room. The ceilings are high and there are chairs and tables off to one side. We decide to go to the counter.

I do a small wine tasting 4 different wines for $3.00 and my husband enjoys an apple flavored beer. I tried mostly white and the Five-05 was my favorite, but the lakeside was a close second. Then I gave the Sunset Red a try and I was so glad I did. No offense to anyone but I usually do not enjoy the flavor of red wine, but this was amazing. So sweet and what I wished all red wines tasted like.

The hours for the Bent Tree tasting room are Saturdays 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM and Sundays 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM. Usually closed during the week, but this Monday, January 9th they are hosting an event. Monkeymou and You Paint Class will be held from 6:00 PM - 7:45 PM. This is for new, young, and older artists. Kids are welcome, but I think only 20 or so spots are available. Sign up is still available and you can contact them through facebook. Wine and painting sound fun.
Hope you can go and enjoy some delicious local wine soon, if not it is sold at Metamora IGA. Enjoy!
